Dive site description: I had dove this site in typical 6ft vis and thought that it might have more to offer on a better day. I dove this site this weekend (4-17-04) and the vis was 20 to 30ft. It was a great dive the best one I have been on in Oregon. The bottom was rocky and then sandy not muddy sand but nice and clean. Life was abundant although I would not recomend dragging a spear gun most of the fish I saw were too small to bother with. Entry is easy from the boat ramp if there arent alot of boats there. the surface swim is maybe 50ft then the bottom drops sharply to about 20ft. I found most of the life on the rocky part part of the bottom. The sandy areas look like underwater dunes with hills and valleys it was nice to be able to hover about 10ft off the bottom and watch it fall away as I crested the peaks. The bay is fed through two creeks so all the rain we had the past week didnt seem to much it up as it does when bigger rivers are feeding into the bay. If dove under good vis this is probally one of the best easy entry shore dives on the Oregon coast.. |
