Dive site description: This was where we did our Advanced Open Water course. The site has individual cabins to stay in, a dormotory for larger groups, and rooms with multiple beds.
The site is mostly a silty bottom, however there are some wrecks on one side, and a tire reef around the site which allows some life to live there. Most of the life is centered around perch, and crabs. Dungenous Crab, Red Rock Crab, Stripped Perch, Shinner Perch (in schools), Sculpin, and other fish roam the reef. A couple of the deeper wrecks (around 50') have small octos roaming in them. On our night dive we did find a decent amount of bio-luminescence given there was no algae bloom (middle of winter)
There isn't a lot of life here, but it is deffinately an easy site. Durring an 8foot tide exchange there was still no noticable current.
A good site for classes, and begginers. On the south side of the dock/pier the bottom contour slopes shallowly from shore to ~50' several hundred feet out from shore. On the North side of the dock is a boat ramp, and a steep sloping bottom which reaches down to 100' easily if not deeper. The North side is the only hazard area as you can reach ~100 feet only 100-200feet out from shore, very easily. All the wrecks with octos are on the North side however, typically around 50' down. |
