Dive site description: We swam out slightly to the right of the fishing pier, and about 2/3 of the way to the end of it. We dropped to the seaweed-covered bottom and headed down the slope. On the way out, we observed many red rock crabs and a few dungeness. The reds were often burried in the sand with just their faces exposed. The bottom was littered with barnacles. Dan found an old-looking Canada Dry bottle to add to his collection. We spotted a couple of ratfish as we explored the site. Many large pilings lay scattered about. On the way back, I found a huge pile of crab pieces, and knew an octopus must be near. I shone my light into the hollowed end of a piling next to the mound, and was rewarded with the site of a huge octopus. He appeared to be sleeping restfully, so we left him and finished our dive. This was a very nice site, and we'll probably go back. |
